Description — overview, distinguishing features and historical context of this model/ variant.
Parker 50 Falcon — Matte Black CT

Model and design

  • The Parker 50, also known as the Falcon, belongs to Parker’s late-1970s and early-1980s range.
  • It uses the integral-nib layout previously seen on the Parker T1.
  • The pen has a slim, tapered body, with the nib forming a continuous extension of the grip section.

Production

  • The photographed example was made in the United States. This variant was also produced in the United Kingdom.
  • Matte Black belongs to the late-1970s Falcon range. The earliest date code identified so far is NL. Examples without a date code may have been produced earlier.
  • The black finish was offered on both fountain pens and matching ballpoints.
  • Example on the photos has date code QE – Quarter 1, 1980.

Body and finish

  • The metal cap and barrel have a matte black epoxy finish.
  • The coating has a fine surface texture.
  • The grip section has a grey colour finish
  • The clip, cap-top surround and ring between the section and barrel have a polished silver-coloured finish.
  • The barrel narrows towards its rounded end.

Nib and section

  • The stainless-steel nib is made in one piece with the outer grip section.
  • The exposed nib has a silver-coloured finish. The grey section coating ends in a pointed outline behind it.
  • A black feed beneath the nib supplies ink to the writing tip.
  • Parker supplied the nib and section as one replacement unit.

Filling system

  • The pen accepts Parker ink cartridges or a removable converter.
  • The original squeeze converter has a metal guard and a pressure bar.
  • The barrel unscrews from the grip section to give access to the cartridge or converter

Cap and clip

  • The cap has a snap-on closure and pulls off for use.
  • The silver-coloured arrow clip has a broad, smooth feather section and a narrow shaft
  • The cap top has a circular silver-coloured centre surrounded by a black ring and a polished metal rim.

Markings

  • The imprint is stamped near the open end of the cap.
  • American-made examples carry the Parker emblem, the Parker name and the MADE IN U.S.A. marking
  • Dated examples also carry Parker’s production date code.
